How to Experience Saint Jean de Luz Festival in 2020 and 2021

The month of June in Saint Jean de Luz is an opportunity to enjoy two important festivals to discover Basque traditions and culture:

  • Udaberria Dantzan, the dance festival of the 7 Basque provinces.
  • Saint Jean de Luz festival or patron saint’s day at the time of Saint John.

It’s the latter that I’m talking about in this article where you’ll find:

  • the description of Saint Jean de Luz festival.
  • videos shot during this festival.
  • some practical information to prepare your trip.

Although many festivals will not be held in 2021, you will find them on the downloadable calendar below. It is indeed a perpetual calendar. Festivals are sorted by month and only fixed-date festivals have their exact dates indicated. So you will be able to use it from one year to the next without difficulty!

Where to sleep in Saint Jean de Luz?

The Madison, in the centre of Saint Jean de Luz and 30 seconds from the seafront, with swimming pool, restaurant and spa.

Note the very friendly welcome and the charm of the place, in an old building of 1911, completely renovated.

La Réserve, a 4-star hotel and restaurant with a breathtaking view of the bay of Saint Jean de Luz.

This is one of my favourite places in Saint Jean de Luz, in a beautiful and quiet setting.

Several times I had the opportunity to have lunch in their splendid restaurant where we would stay for hours contemplating the ocean and the cliffs.

The Grand Hotel Thalasso Spa, 5 stars in the centre of Saint Jean de Luz and in the heart of the bay.

In spite of the beauty of the building and its privileged location, I find the welcome too stilted and not very warm…
